Autumn/Winter 2008 LINK TO JOIN BRITISH TENNIS MEMBERSHIP! After the summer holiday (August) break for our squad players I'd like to welcome you all back and hope your enjoying the new squad and mini tennis programs. Currently we are experiencing some disruption whilst the courts at the Riverside are being re-surfaced but all the courts should be back up and running as normal from October 8th giving us a fantastic playing surface for the winter months ahead. There have been some changes within the coaching/competition structure that we run at Tennis Plus. These changes have been made to fit in with the new guidelines set out in the LTA National Competition Framework and also to accommodate the additional Tennis Plus Academy Squad training sessions (details in coaching section of website) which will help us further develop our performance section by offering additional opportunities for coaching, fitness and competition. As there have been changes with the new ratings system I urge you all to visit the website www.lta.org.uk to familiarise yourself with the latest changes (there are now 4 opportunities a year to improve your rating). If you have any queries please don't hesitate to give me a call. I’d like to welcome on board two new young coaches Joseph James and Ben Griffiths who will be assisting me Ioan Evans and Jonathan Richardson with the Tennis Plus program, many of you will already know both Jo and Ben as they are among the strongest players to come through the junior section and I look forward to working with them both. MINI TENNIS Our mini tennis Centres based at Highnam Community Centre and Quedgeley Health and Fitness Centre are going from strength to strength with some 50 children now enrolled between the ages of 4-9yrs and links now set up with 10 schools to feed into this program. In the short time of running the mini tennis centres we have already seen fantastic developments with Matthew Evans, Max Timothy and Josh Timothy who have already come through the mini tennis set up and who are now in our Bronze Squad and Tennis Plus Academy training. There are also some fine younger prospects under 6 with Paddy Thompson, Joel Merrick and Tyler Baker among many others. Special Congratulations to Max Timothy who won our clubs first mini red tennis tournament which was held in September.Max was successful in an all “Timothy” final against his younger brother Josh Timothy.
